Free Stuff!

On Friday, November 22nd, we handed out free recipe cards and blue cornbread at the Oreo during lunch hours. Despite competition from the snowy weather and CAT's beloved Happy Friday lollipop giveaways, facilitators of Just Food were able to disseminate almost all of the indigenous North/Native American recipe cards that Emily and Frank designed. We thought the cards would be a great way to promote awareness about our group and about the foods that are in season and native to our country. It was a perfect pre-Thanksgiving event, even though the cornbread was almost frozen by the end of our giveaway! The recipes ranged from simpler, dorm-friendly dishes like succotash, baked squash, and blue cornbread to more complex ones like Pumpkin Corn Soup with Ginger Lime Cream and Pan-Seared Salmon, both of which were ideal for bringing home over break and impressing the family.

The Just Food Family Thanksgiving will be rescheduled as a Christmas gathering, and hopefully a holiday gift-canning party will be squeezed into the last two weeks of the semester, too. The Center for Peace & Justice Education's event honoring the 60th Anniversary of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights is also approaching us on Dec. 10th, and Just Food will be hosting an informational table in cooperation with Bread for the World. Stay tuned for coverage on these events and plans for next semester!
